Chosen charities for 2018/2019

Our recently installed Worshipful Master has selected his chosen charity during his year of office which is the Ashtead Cancer Support Group and The Brigitte Trust.

The Ashtead Cancer Support Group are a local community group for cancer patients, survivors and carers. The group in open to anyone where ever you live and what ever cancer that may be effecting their lives directly or indirectly. The group has a monthly open meeting which may be an opportunity to share their experiences, invited guested may run workshops or chat on various topics some relating to cancer but others not directly related to medical issues. The group also meet up for yoga sessions, walks, breakfast or meet at the local pub during the year. This group has had some support from Macmillan in the past.

The Brigitte Trust are a charity based in Dorking which supports people facing life threatening illnesses in Surrey. Volunteers provide emotional and practical help at home to people facing life-threatening illness. This Charity has had some support from Macmillan in the past.

Help is provided many ways including:

• Emotional support and listening skills
• Respite for carers
• Transport -shopping , transport to medical appointments hospital and
  trips out .
• Bereavement support.
