On Saturday 3rd July 2021, the lodge supported one of its members on a walk, stretching from Crayford (London borough of Bexley), deep into Kent, the Garden of England, finishing at East Farleigh near Maidstone.
The walk was in memory of John Arthurs (member’s grandfather), who resided in both locations and unfortunately suffered with Parkinson’s until his passing. The walk was broken up into various legs, to enable walkers of all abilities to partake, with the full distance being a decent 24 miles, completed in just under 7 hours.
Luckily for the walkers, the weather was perfect; dry and sunny, but not too hot. The walk culminated in a well-earned and customary visit to the Victory Inn Public House for some light refreshments before the walkers headed off home for the inevitable aches and pains.
Parkinson’s UK sent a comprehensive and sincere thank-you letter, explaining how the funds will be utilised, most notably within continued research, but also to provide palliative care to any unfortunate soul who suffers from this terrible disease.
For the walkers, it is another notch on the charity belt, with the next walk already being discussed and organised! Many thanks for all those who participated, but also, anyone that donated, especially during these difficult times.
